Events in the Cultivation Corridor
The Corridor’s abundance of agriculture and livestock shows attracts visitors from all over the world, giving them a glimpse of the innovation happening in the region. Even Iowa’s steamy summers and frigid winters can’t keep attendees away from these shows and expos that occur throughout the entire year.
World Pork Expo
The World Pork Expo is the largest pork-specific trade show and brings 20,000 pork producers and other professionals to Des Moines every June. The event features the newest innovations designed to advance pork production, along with swine breeders displaying some of the best genetics available today. The expo includes educational business seminars, an extensive trade show featuring hundreds of exhibitors, the World Pork Expo Junior National with over 900 youth participants, as well as breed shows and sales. Additionally, pre-expo tours are offered and specifically designed for international guests to give them an inside look at U.S. agriculture, from the farm to the consumer experience.
Iowa Pork Congress
The Iowa Pork Congress is the nation’s largest winter swine tradeshow and conference. The two-day Des Moines event attracts 5,000 visitors and pork producers from all over the U.S., giving them the opportunity to speak with approximately 300 companies. The event also features workshops revolving around topics such as politics, food safety, animal health, antibiotic use and economic forecast, as well as the Youth Swine Judging Contest.
Farm Progress Show
The Farm Progress Show is the nation’s largest outdoor farm event, annually hosting almost 600 exhibitors displaying new farm equipment, tractors, combines and farm implements, as well as seed and crop protection products and additional farm supplies and services. The mission of the three-day event is to provide an interactive venue for farms, agribusiness officials and agriculture companies from all over the world to network, gain cutting-edge information, and conduct business. Major highlights of the show include daily field demonstrations as well as live cattle-handling demonstrations, featuring the newest equipment and techniques. The event is held in Boone, Iowa every other year, alternating with Decatur, Illinois.
Iowa State Fair
The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair attracts more than a million visitors from around the world to Des Moines every year. Fairgoers have the chance to get up close and personal with the state’s finest livestock, shop for farm equipment and learn about Iowa’s agricultural heritage. This past summer, fairgoers had the chance to stop by the John Deere Agriculture Building to experience “It Takes an Iowan,” a new interactive exhibit focused on Iowans as leaders in the ongoing effort to provide food for the world. The exhibit highlighted the advancement of technology to better produce food.
Land Investment Expo
The Land Investment Expo is recognized as the nation’s premier farmland event, attracting more than 650 attendees, speakers, sponsors and media to Des Moines every winter. Each year, farmers, business owners, academics, REITs, land developers, hedge funds, pension funds, endowments, family offices, bankers, policy experts, real estate professionals and others from across the country gather to learn from, and interact with one another. The event features expert speakers, educational breakout sessions covering a wide range of topics relevant to farmland assets, and trade show exhibitors.
Practical Farmers of Iowa Annual Conference
The Practical Farmers of Iowa Annual Conference provides farmer-to-farmer learning, networking and grassroots solutions to farm challenges for a more diverse, sustainable agricultural landscape. The Ames event attracts a variety of farmers, as well as non-farmers who are interested in learning more about how their food is grown and building relationships between those who work the land and those who rely on their labors. The conference includes in-depth workshops, roundtables, breakfast meetings and a wide array of sessions, as well as the opportunity to network and interact with sponsors.
Iowa Power Farming Show
Des Moines hosts the Iowa Power Farming Show, the third largest indoor ag show in the nation. The three-day event’s average attendance is 20,000 and brings in 780 companies from all over the U.S. and Canada. The show features educational seminars, agriculture and financial experts, and precision ag technology pros from some of the top companies in the field. Attendees have the chance to check out revolutionary precision ag products and gain insights into how to make better financial, agronomic and equipment decisions for their farms.
