AMES, Iowa (September 8, 2017) - On September 19, 2017, KinoSol SBC, a Minnesota Specific Benefit Corporation, with an Ames, Iowa office, will be competing in the finals in the student division of the Minnesota Cup.
The Minnesota Cup is the largest statewide startup competition in the United States. This competition has been held for the past thirteen years, with a primary goal of connecting fellow entrepreneurs.
The student division finals will be held at 11:30 a.m at the Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis. KinoSol and the other finalist companies, Outdoors Advisor and UnderRecruited Preps, will have twelve minutes to give a presentation over their businesses, followed by twelve minutes of questions with a review board. First place in the student division will win $35,000, and second place will win $5,000; there will be no cash award for third place.
Breakthrough ideas from over 1,300 entrepreneurs were submitted for this year’s competition. Key to selecting finalists was the entrepreneurs’ ability to make their ideas a reality. Winners of each division will proceed to the grand prize competition on October 9 at the University of Minnesota’s McNamara Alumni Center from 11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
KinoSol’s team is comprised of Iowa State University students and alums. Its mission is to end food waste, sustainably. KinoSol launched in September 2014, and began delivering its first product to regions worldwide in January 2017. KinoSol’s first product is the Orenda, a solar-powered food dehydrator with a storage component, designed to help families in developing regions to preserve additional food and nutrients.
