SIMPSON COLLEGE AWARDS HONORARY DEGREE TO GAGE KENT
INDIANOLA, IA: Gage A. Kent, chairman and CEO of Kent Corporation, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Simpson College in Indianola, IA, at Simpson’s annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, April 30.
Simpson College President Jay Simmons presented Mr. Kent with the honorary degree and thanked him for donating his energy and counsel to Simpson College as a member of the Board of Trustees since 1993.
“It is an honor to be welcomed into the fellowship of Simpson College’s distinguished alumni,” Mr. Kent said. “Simpson provides students with quality programs and opportunities for a successful career and life.”
Kent is a native of Muscatine and a 1983 graduate of Iowa State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He is chairman of the Board of Directors and chief executive officer of Kent Corporation.
During the degree presentation, President Simmons recognized Mr. Kent’s active services on a number of social and fraternal organizations in Muscatine and in the state of Iowa.
Locally, he was a founding member (and past chairman) of the Muscatine Charities, Inc. Board of Directors; a past member (and past chairman) of the board for the Muscatine Power and Water public utility; a past member (and past chairman) for the Greater Muscatine Chamber Economic Development Group, and a past chairman and member of the Muscatine Community Sheltered Workshop.
On the state level, Mr. Kent serves on the Board of Trustees of Simpson College, Indianola; is a member and former chair of the Board of Governors of the Iowa College Foundation; a member of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry; and a member of the Iowa Business Council. He is chairman of the Board of the Iowa Innovation Corridor, incoming chair of the Cultivation Corridor, and is also a member emeritus of the Board of Governors of Iowa State University Foundation.
Based in Muscatine, the company’s operating subsidiaries include Grain Processing Corporation (Corn Wet Milling); Kent Nutrition Group, Inc. (Animal Nutrition Products); Kent Pet Group, Inc. (Pet Products); Kent Precision Foods Group, Inc. (Seasonings and Dry Blended Foods); and The Sqwincher Corporation (Hydration Products).
