Building on Iowa’s momentum

Leadership insights from Todd Frazier, board chair of America's Cultivation Corridor

Fall harvest is underway across most of Iowa, and while it marks the end of one growing season, it is also a time of transition and momentum. Across Iowa’s food and agriculture sectors, that transition is being driven by innovation as businesses, entrepreneurs, researchers and industry leaders develop new technologies, products and solutions. From biotechnology and advanced manufacturing to digital agriculture and new uses for agricultural products, innovation is creating new opportunities and strengthening Iowa’s leadership in the global food and agriculture economy.

It is a familiar rhythm in agriculture, and one that we’re seeing across Iowa’s agriculture, food and bioscience sectors. Momentum is building across the state and creating opportunities for farmers, businesses, communities and industries. A recent report highlighted Iowa as the leading state in the Midwest for AgTech investment from 2021-25, with 70+ deals totaling more than $245 million, a recognition of the strength and potential already taking root here.

That momentum does not happen by accident. It comes from investing in opportunity and from bringing together businesses, entrepreneurs, researchers, educators, communities and economic development leaders around shared goals. Programs such as RuralSTAMINA and BioMADE facility at the ISU BioCentury Research Farm Iowa demonstrate the kind of collaboration that can help position Iowa for continued growth while addressing challenges facing rural communities and the industries that support them. The launch of Vylor as an independent company headquartered in central Iowa is another example of leadership and collaboration at work.

As chair of America’s Cultivation Corridor, I see firsthand the value of creating connections across these sectors. Our opportunity now is to build on what is working, continue investing in innovation and make sure Iowa remains a place where new ideas can take root and grow.

Harvest reminds us that progress requires both patience and planning. The investments we make today will shape what Iowa is able to reap tomorrow. This is a time to look ahead with confidence and continue building on the momentum already underway.
