Leadership insights from Kevin Rasmussen, Chair of America's Cultivation Corridor and member of Iowa Pork Producers Association

While most people refer to Memorial Day as the unofficial start to summer, for those of us in the pork industry, summer isn’t underway until World Pork Expo in Des Moines!

With more than 10,000 pork producers and industry professionals from 32 countries attending, there is no better place to network, learn and share the latest innovations.

In 2025, there were nearly 400 companies from North America and around the world displaying their products, service and innovations.  I am always impressed at the new ideas and technologies that are being brought to the marketplace from startups, regional companies and global leaders – all with a focus on making pork production more efficient and sustainable.

At this year’s Expo, I took notice of a number of innovations that both improve how we care for animals and reduce labor requirements on the farm. Across Iowa and the country, finding employees is a challenge, so we are always looking for ways to be more efficient while not compromising animal health or comfort.  Robotic washers for barns, new pen designs and monitors, and much, much more were on display with the opportunity to talk with company representatives to learn more.

We were also honored to host delegations from several countries during the Expo and appreciate Iowa government and industry leaders who engage with these groups, including Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.

The announcement that JBS USA is investing $135 million in building a state-of-the-art sausage production facility in Perry, Iowa, is also exciting news.  It strengthens our state’s leadership in pork production, creates new opportunities for pork producers, and supports the rural communities.

Best wishes for a great summer and I look forward to seeing you at World Pork Expo 2026!
